A social story uses storytelling to explain new experiences and environments to a person or people with autism or who have sensory sensitivities.
Anyone who is nervous when attending a place or event for the first time, may benefit from access to a social story.
For your social story to be successful, we recommend you follow these guidelines.
I might travel to the Volunteer Centre in Mandurah by bus or car.
If I go in a car, there is a car park for Mandurah Lotteries House, where the Volunteer Centre is located.
If I go by bus, there are bus stops along Pinjarra Rd, just out the front of Mandurah Lotteries House Office.

I can bring a support person, friend or family member with me to the interview
When I arrive at Mandurah Lotteries House I will have to call the Volunteer Centre on the intercom.

Someone will answer and I will give them my name and they will open the glass doors and come to meet me in the lobby
There might be other people in our office working while you are there.
The person will escort me to the Volunteer Centre office.
They will ask me to take a seat and give you some paper work to complete.
They are happy to help you with this
I will see some files with all the volunteering opportunities.
We will discuss these and I will be given written information about the volunteer roles I’m interested in.
We can make a telephone call for you to set up an appointment with your chosen organisation , club or group, or
I can do it later by myself at home
When I am finished I will go back to
the front door.
